¹¹ They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us to the desert to die?^(A) What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?

²⁴ So the people grumbled^(A) against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?”^(B)

² In the desert the whole community grumbled^(A) against Moses and Aaron.

² So they quarreled with Moses and said, “Give us water^(A) to drink.”^(B)

Moses replied, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the Lord to the test?”^(C)

³ But the people were thirsty^(A) for water there, and they grumbled^(B) against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die^(C) of thirst?”

Fire From the Lord

11 Now the people complained^(A) about their hardships in the hearing of the Lord,^(B) and when he heard them his anger was aroused.^(C) Then fire from the Lord burned among them^(D) and consumed^(E) some of the outskirts of the camp. ² When the people cried out to Moses, he prayed^(F) to the Lord^(G) and the fire died down. ³ So that place was called Taberah,^[a](H) because fire from the Lord had burned among them.^(I)

Quail From the Lord

⁴ The rabble with them began to crave other food,^(J) and again the Israelites started wailing^(K) and said, “If only we had meat to eat!

⁵ they spoke against God^(A) and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt^(B) to die in the wilderness?^(C) There is no bread! There is no water!^(D) And we detest this miserable food!”^(E)
